History of the Wood: This 150 year old tree had to be removed from the site of George Washington’s whiskey distillery, which stood behind his grist mill at his home, Mount Vernon. Archaeologists uncovered the original foundation, and Mount Vernon has since rebuilt the distillery and are now making whiskey using Washington’s recipe to produce small batches for the first time in over 200 years.
